It will be 1 MB or slightly less, never more. We pick the highest quality that fits, so you get the sharpest image possible within the limit.

How do you get large photos down to 1 MB?

First the compression quality is lowered. If that isn't enough, the pixel dimensions are reduced step by step until the file fits.

What if my image is already under 1 MB?

Then the original is kept unchanged. The tool never makes a file bigger or lowers quality more than needed.

Which format will I get?

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images keep their format. iPhone HEIC photos and other formats become JPG (or PNG if they have transparency). You can also choose the format yourself.
